Bacchus was the God of wine, fertility and happiness. Much represented in paintings and sculptures. Here we have a pair of antique earrings with a Bacchus all-round head wonderfully hand-carved in red lava as a little art-masterpiece. The quality of the carving is impressive. Look the details: the beard, the face and the head all decorated with grapes and leaves. Down is pending a gold drop. A typical souvenir for the Grand Tour tourists visiting Italy. Second half of the 19th century from Naples. From a private family collection in Rome. 14K gold (touchstone tested). They are in perfect condition.
